Danny Rohl reveals latest Sheffield Wednesday stance on free agent signings

Since the January transfer window closed, Sheffield Wednesday has been associated with possible free agent acquisitions.

In preparation for this vital final stretch, Sheffield Wednesday is keeping an eye on the free agency market for any possible acquisitions.

After missing out on Duncan McGuire on deadline day, the Owls were left searching for a new striker. After Kristian Pedersen’s injury, Rohl was left searching for a replacement left-back.

Ravel Morrison is another name connected to Sheffield Wednesday, although Danny Rohl claims the player isn’t currently on the team’s radar.

Elsewhere, free agent left-back Nico Schulz has been training with Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl still scouring free agent market

In light of Sheffield Wednesday’s current search for free agency acquisitions, Rohl has now updated The Star, saying:

As I’ve previously stated, we always keep an eye out, but the circumstances never change, so it doesn’t make sense to guess or rely on rumors. We’ll try it if there’s someone we can bring in. It has been nice working with the guys here, and it is vital to concentrate on the group as a whole and to train on certain fundamentals.

Why free agent signings might now be pointless for Sheffield Wednesday

Without a doubt, Sheffield Wednesday would have preferred to have made more transfers during the January transfer window.

Even though it has subsequently been revealed that they had signed James Beadle, Ian Poveda, and Ike Ugbo—three important players—an additional striker and a healthy left-back would have provided Rohl with much-needed depth.

However, at this late stage of the season, it will be very difficult to find a player on the free agent market who is both skilled enough to help the team and fit enough to enter and contribute to this last push.

Furthermore, it appears that Rohl is merely monitoring possible choices at this time rather than urgently searching for free agents to sign with Hillsborough.

In addition, players like Dominic Iorfa, who might play against Bristol City this weekend, are making a comeback, which will help the team in the closing weeks of the season.

And after strong recent performances, there doesn’t seem to be a huge need for new bodies at Sheffield Wednesday, so free agent signings doesn’t seem like it’d make much of a difference for Rohl right now.

The Owls return to action vs Bristol City tomorrow at 3pm.
