With a victory over Carlisle on Saturday’s last day, Derby County earned automatic promotion and are now getting ready for life back in the Championship.

Fortunately for the Rams, this means they won’t need to make drastic adjustments—rather, they can focus on sprinkling in some quality instead.

Still, there are a few obvious problems with the club, and most people would agree that they need to score more goals.

Macaulay Langstaff was formerly of interest to Derby County.
Macaulay Langstaff, a striker for Notts County who has had another fantastic season with the Magpies, is one guy who could accomplish just that. It has been reported that Derby were keeping an eye on him during the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old scored 28 goals in the fourth division after helping the team return to the Football League with 42 goals.

It goes without saying that Langstaff’s ability to handle the enormous leap to the Championship would be questioned.

Langstaff is clearly a cause for concern, and some detractors will correctly note that he has achieved his aims in League Two and the National League. Those who have watched him play, though, will notice that he possesses excellent instincts in and around the box and exhibits genuine composure when given the opportunity.

This summer, Warne has to be shopping for at least two strikers since Derby may struggle to score goals if they return to the Championship.

The Rams shouldn’t, and we already know that they won’t, be able to spend enormous quantities of money this summer. Rather, they will try to find possible deals and provide players from lesser tiers an opportunity.

Langstaff, who is 27 years old and ready to start right away, fits Derby’s ideal candidate profile. He would also undoubtedly welcome the opportunity to transfer to Pride Park. Thus, it appears to be a mutually beneficial agreement for the athlete and the club.
