Carlton Palmer urges ‘exceptional’ 20-year-old gem to join Derby County for one reason

One of Derby County’s transfer targets has been pushed to sign with the team this summer by Carlton Palmer.

Derby County, having been promoted to the Championship, has already dabbled in the transfer market.

Paul Warne’s top goal is still to strengthen the Rams’ midfield because Tyrese Fornah is the only player now under contract for the summer, with Max Bird going for Bristol City and Liam Thompson, Conor Hourihane, and Korey Smith also out of contract.

Cardiff City rejected Derby’s £250,000 offer for loan star yesterday; the Bluebirds are requesting twice that amount in order to bring the 28-year-old to Pride Park on a permanent basis.

They are also considering Celtic’s Bosun Lawal, who spent the season on loan at Fleetwood Town, as a midfield player in addition to Adams.

The 20-year-old star is reportedly being courted by Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth, two Championship opponents, but Carlton Palmer has provided a compelling argument for joining Derby instead of either team.

Lawal, a physically commanding and technically proficient defender, began his Fleetwood career as a center-back before manager Charlie Adam moved him into central midfield.

The young player, who has been hailed as a “top talent” by his boss, has flourished in midfield, contributing two assists and four goals in 15 games.
