Chris Sutton labelled ‘pathetic’ by Robbie Savage for dodging Rangers and Celtic question

Robbie Savage mockingly called Chris Sutton “pathetic” after he declined to respond to a title question about Rangers and Celtic.

With a 5-0 victory against Hearts on Saturday, February 24, the Gers took a five-point lead over Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership. Although Celtic still has a game against Motherwell on Sunday, February 25, they are now clearly in the lead.

On BBC Radio 5’s 606 [24 February, 8:15pm], co-host Savage questioned Sutton seven times on whether Rangers would go on to win the title. Sutton repeatedly sidestepped the subject.

Sutton gave a variety of responses, such as, “I think Rangers should lose,” “It appears to be over, at least that’s what Rangers supporters think,” and “right now, they’re favorites.”

Sutton, a former Celtic striker, also stated that Rangers were “favorites” and “ahead,” desperately trying to avoid saying with certainty that Rangers would ultimately win the championship.

Savage responded, “What a pathetic person.”

To give Sutton his due, he did commend the Rangers’ “remarkable” play since Philippe Clement took over for Michael Beale.

He was also clearly just having a bit of fun with his answers, although it will be great to rub it in when the title is lifted in a few months.

The victory over Hearts – or more so the performance in easing to a five-goal win – means the Gers are now strong favourites for the title.

Philippe Clement has worked wonders as Rangers manager

While there may only be two points in it come the end of the weekend, the Light Blues are showing no signs of letting up right now.

Compared to five months ago, when everything were hopeless, Clement has done wonders at Ibrox and has restored the fan base’s faith.

That’s not to suggest we’ll win every game from now until the conclusion of the season, but Celtic cannot stop us right now.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have been informed that if they imitate Celtic’s transfer strategy, they could lose millions of dollars.
