Charlie McCann, an ex-Rangers midfielder, has fans thinking about an Ibrox repurchase clause after he scored a spectacular goal for Forest Green.

With just his second goal of the season, the youthful Northern Irish midfielder, 21, scored the game-winning goal for Forest Green against Tranmere Rovers with a rasping 30-yard strike.

With Forest Green currently holding one of the two relegation spots in League Two, the outcome could increase the team’s chances of surviving the league.

Ex-Ibrox Forest Green midfielder nets stunner

After impressing in the Rangers B team, Charlie McCann played eight times for the Ibrox club’s first-team before making the switch to Forest Green in 2023.

There was some confusion surrounding a potential fee paid by Rangers to Man United to sign the kid, who at the time was turning out for the Republic of Ireland’s youth team, with claims that the Gers paid £750k rubbished by Ibrox insiders.

Charlie McCann, who switched allegiances to Northern Ireland while he was at Ibrox, has five caps with the U21 team and is predicted to be an international player in the future.

Despite receiving a new contract offer at Ibrox, the gifted midfield player transferred to Forest Green in January 2023, for which Forest Green are rumored to have paid Rangers £350k.

Could Rangers be convinced by Charlie McCann’s goal?
Charlie McCann reportedly made the decision to leave Glasgow in order to pursue first-team opportunities, and he has since made 38 appearances for Forest Green.

After the team’s relegation from League One the previous season, the midfielder made just three appearances for the team, and they now face consecutive demotions.

Even though Charlie McCann scored a spectacular goal against Tranmere Rovers, Rangers is rumored to have a buy-back option on his transfer to Forest Green. However, the club is unlikely to exercise this option.

In this area, the Gers have undoubtedly advanced, with Charlie McCann unlikely to receive the playing time he desires at Ibrox and midfield becoming an increasingly competitive position.

Even so, the midfielder has acknowledged in the past that he still has unresolved business with Rangers.
