Ibrox Exclusive: 34-year-old ‘ leave Rangers’

Kemar Roofe will exit Rangers at the end of the season when his contract expires, sources have told Football Insider.

The forward will “leave the club” after the Gers decide not to renew his contract at Ibrox, according to transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, who made this announcement on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast.

After four seasons at Rangers, Roofe was expected to go, as Football Insider (15 February) disclosed, but their decision has already been made.

The club’s decision to split ways with the 31-year-old was mostly influenced by manager Philippe Clement’s desire to bring in young, high-potential players during the upcoming transfer window and age down his roster at Ibrox.

After four seasons with the Rangers, Kemar Roofe is expected to retire.
During his time with the team, Roofe has also sustained repeated ailments; at the moment, he is out due to a condition he sustained in December.

It’s thought that one of the main reasons he left was because of his repeated failures.

The 2020 transfer from Belgian team Anderlecht to Rangers cost approximately £4.5 million. In 93 appearances across all competitions, the former Leeds and West Brom star has scored 38 goals.

With ten league goals in his debut season in 2020–21 under Steven Gerrard, he contributed to the team’s championship.

Following their 3-1 victory over Ross County on Wednesday, the Rangers tied rivals Celtic on both the goal differential and points scored (14 February).

Their next game is on Sunday afternoon, away to St Johnstone (18 February).
