3 centre-backs Ipswich Town should target amid Manchester United transfer link

Ipswich Town were among the sides to be linked with Manchester United centre-back Will Fish towards the end of last week.

Ipswich Town are one of numerous sides taking an interest in Fish, as per HITC. They report that championship sides Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Hull City are all keen on the centre-back, who has impressed on loan in Scotland with Hibernian.

Centre-back is a position Kieran McKenna may need to bolster this summer, so with the widescale interest in the Manchester United defender, it could be wise to keep some other alternatives in mind too.

With that said, here are three more centre-backs Ipswich Town should have an eye on…

Ronnie Edwards – Peterborough United

While Edwards is currently playing in League One, he’s certainly capable of stepping up to the Championship with Ipswich Town. In fact, even if the club were to win promotion, the Peterborough United star could probably slot into a Premier League backline.

The England youth international is a standout player with the Posh and a step up the leagues is surely around the corner. The only issue is, he could perhaps be out of Town’s reach given just how high his potential is.

Di’Shon Bernard – Sheffield Wednesday

A more feasible option may be Di’Shon Bernard, who has proven his ability in the Championship since his free transfer move to Sheffield Wednesday last summer. He only signed a year-long deal upon arrival though, so could be available on the cheap.

Bernard is a young centre-back with his best years ahead of him. He’s also a former Manchester United youngster himself, so McKenna may well be aware of his talents.

Luke McNally – Burnley (on loan at Stoke City)

Last but not least is McNally, who hasn’t been able to find the levels he showed at Coventry City with Stoke City. The latter are right at the wrong end of the Championship table and few have impressed in a seriously struggling team.

McNally hasn’t made a Burnley breakthrough since joining from Oxford United and with the Clarets set for relegation, a sale could raise some funds. If so, Ipswich Town should definitely be among those keen.
