Gary O’Neil issues Hwang Hee-Chan update after injury ‘shock’

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil has confirmed Hee-Chan Hwang suffered an injury scare in the warm-up before the 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

The South Korean hurt his knee during a possession drill but decided to play nonetheless, starting in the number nine role for Wolves. Hwang made some decent runs in the channels throughout and pressed the Blades’ defence effectively but he didn’t look anywhere near as sharp as usual.

“During one of our possessions, he stood on the ball. During the news conference after the game, O’Neil said that “he kind of rocked his knee a little bit.” Then, it was confirmed that the injury fear had been promptly allayed and that Hwang’s lack of sprints in the second half had been caused by general exhaustion.

Even though Hwang didn’t play at his best on Sunday, Wolves fans shouldn’t be concerned about him. After his involvement in the AFC Asian Cup, the 28-year-old will need some time to catch up. The fact that Wolves don’t have many other choices when it comes to strikers puts more pressure on him. The objectives will definitely return soon.
