Celtic and Brighton are among several clubs keeping tabs on Charlton Athletic hotshot

Celtic and Brighton are among several clubs keeping tabs on Charlton Athletic hotshot Patrick Casey, sources have told Football Insider.

Casey, 18, is regarded as one of the best young prospects to come through at The Valley in recent years and made his first-team debut last month in the League One clash against Oxford.

The prolific forward netted 42 goals for the club’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides last season and he has scored 31 goals in all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

Brighton, Celtic and Belgian duo Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Club Brugge have scouted Casey regularly.

The teenager is also in huge demand on the international stage with the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England all keen for him to pledge his international allegiances to them.

He was named in the Republic of Ireland’s Under-19 squad for a summer training camp last June (2023).

Casey is under contract with Charlton until June 2023 after penning his first professional terms at the club last year.

The 2005-born star came through the ranks with the south London club.

Brighton have built a reputation for developing top young talent with the likes of Jack Hinshelwood and Evan Ferguson coming through the club’s ranks.

The Seagulls have also become a top destination for talent from elsewhere, with the likes of Alexis MacAllister and Moises Caicedo earning big moves after learning their trade on the south coast.

Celtic have struggled to keep hold of their best academy talents in recent years and are now eyeing up a raid of their own on League One Charlton.
