Rangers now set to seal last-gasp new arrival within hours – report

News about the Rangers’ transfer: A final report on the Oscar Cortes deal at Ibrox is imminent

With the transfer deadline drawing near, Rangers should be able to finalize Oscar Cortes’ loan signing shortly, according to Football Scotland.

Early on January 31, the outlet announced on their website that a deal for the young winger is expected to be finalized “over the next 24 hours.”

The 20-year-old from Lens is scheduled to arrive with the option to extend the contract, as Philippe Clement saw him as the “ideal” reinforcement following a serious injury setback to Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima.

This month, Rangers signed Mohamed Diomande on a permanent basis and loaned Silva, but they still want to conclude a number of transactions before the transfer market closes.

To the cable

For most of the last week of the January window, Cortes and his age-mate, the Brazilian full-back Jefte, appeared to be close to joining at Ibrox.

However, Rangers are already making it work to conclude their final few items of business, as the deadline is at 11 p.m. on February 1.

There’s still a chance for players like Jose Cifuentes to depart, so there’s a lot of work to be done quickly to have the team as strong as possible in time for a title fight.

With Danilo and Kemar Roofe out as well, the attacking areas have been severely impacted by bad luck when it comes to injuries, but the Sima blow is possibly the worst of all.

If the Colombian does indeed finish his move in the anticipated amount of time, Cortes will have a significant void to assist fill due to the Senegal international’s departure.

However, after much conjecture around Lawrence Shankland in the run-up to January, the striker situation has become eerily quiet, with the potential departure of Cyriel Dessers now raising concerns.

Another Rangers story is that a star player wants to get out before the deadline but won’t be moved.
