Borussia Dortmund in talks with Julian Nagelsmann as the club’s next head coach

According to reports, Borussia Dortmund are considering making a move for Julian Nagelsmann this summer.

When it comes to their Bundesliga results right now, Borussia Dortmund is in a very vulnerable position. Due to the club’s lack of sustained performance consistency, head coach Edin Terzić has come under intense pressure this season.

To put things in perspective, Edin Terzić’s win percentage over this period is 33 percent; the club has won 5 of their last 15 games in all competitions. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that rumors are beginning to circulate that Dortmund is looking to replace their present head coach this summer. Hoffenheim,

Julian Nagelsmann is the most recent candidate to be declared. Nagelsmann has coached RB Leipzig, and Bayern Munich, giving him a wealth of experience in the Bundesliga. His credentials speak for themselves, as we already know, so it’s not surprising that the club is keeping an eye on him. Up to the end of this summer’s Euros, Nagelsmann is the head coach of Germany’s national team.

It remains to be seen if the club will ultimately select him as their candidate. First of all, it might not be easy to persuade Nagelsmann to join Dortmund because the German is probably considering offers from England and Spain as well. Another thing to consider is Nuri Sahin.

Sahin joined Terzić as an assistant coach this season after leaving Antalyaspor, but it’s difficult for me to accept that he wasn’t assured the chance to take over as the team’s manager in the future—especially considering that he chose to renounce a head coaching position in Turkey in order to pursue this opportunity. Sahin was finding success at Antalyaspor, so it seems improbable that he would mind staying in the wings.

Nevertheless, Sahin might benefit from a few years under Nagelsmann’s leadership since he would be studying under a capable tactician, which would probably advance his coaching career more than having Terzić take second place. It remains to be seen what Dortmund ultimately decides to do, but it appears like the team is headed toward a significant overhaul, with players like Nagelsmann possibly set to assist in that respect.
