Former Celtics forward gets buyout, allowed to sign with Boston

After accepting a buyout, a different former forward for the Celtics is now a free agent. After being bought out by the Pistons, Mike Muscala is now qualified to play in the postseason for his next team, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

According to Wojnarowski, some playoff teams should show interest in Muscala. Even though the 32-year-old was traded by the organisation during the offseason, he is still qualified to join with the Celtics. The C’s have the option to sign him because the Wizards traded him to the Pistons before the deadline.

In 37 games this season with the Pistons and Wizards, Muscala is averaging 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. Although he might not be the first choice for many suitors, the big man might offer some outside shooting and a seasoned presence in the locker room.

However, Muscala’s signing with the Celtics is not a given. There is some room because Boston has an extra roster spot after the trade deadline. However, the C’s may wait to fill that roster position until close to the end of the season, so it’s unclear right now what they plan to do with it.

Muscala could also be looking for a larger opportunity on a playoff team as minutes will be hard to come by in Boston. But he’s at least eligible for a Celtics return if both sides are interested in that. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see where Muscala lines up.
