Out-of-contract Plymouth Argyle star wanted by Middlesbrough

According to a source in The Sun, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, and Coventry City are all interested in Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway.

In the summer of 2021, Galloway signed a contract with Plymouth Argyle when his deal with Luton Town expired. The Zimbabwean international has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but at Home Park this year, he’s drawn attention.

Since making a comeback to the field in November, Galloway has established himself as a starter under Ian Foster, starting most of the time on the left side of the back three. But his contract with the Pilgrims expires this summer, and other parties are becoming more interested.

According to The Sun, Middlesbrough, Coventry City, and Blackburn Rovers—the three Championship teams—are all big fans of Galloway.

Since Plymouth Argyle hasn’t extended an offer to the 27-year-old, its second-tier rivals may be able to take advantage of the situation.

One to hold onto

Galloway has proven himself as an influential player at Plymouth Argyle since his return to fitness. He’s held down the starting spot in the back three but also offers his services as a left-back or wing-back having played there earlier in his career.

If he isn’t to be tied down to a new deal by the Pilgrims, it seems he’ll have opportunities to stay in the Championship. Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers could all be attractive options, especially given the upward mobility of the first two especially.

You would have to assume that Argyle would do all in their power to hang onto Galloway after such a good breakthrough season under Foster. Only time will tell how things work out for him, since interest from other sources is mounting and he must make the final decision.

Galloway, though, will be concentrating on supporting Plymouth in their battle to avoid relegation until then. After defeating Middlesbrough over the weekend, they are now five points clear of the drop in the Championship standings, sitting in 15th place.
