Austin FC Announces Soccer Operations, Technical Staff Updates Ahead of 2024 Season

In anticipation of the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, Austin FC announced today a number of changes to the Club’s technical and soccer operations staff.

John Turner was appointed Director of Player Personnel by the Club, and Yago Aguilar Azón was appointed Director of Domestic Scouting and Recruitment. Aguilar worked as the Football Director’s Assistant at TS Wisla KrakoŁw SA in Poland for the previous season.He is a licensed UEFA Pro Coach and has worked as a technical advisor, scout, coach, and academy team builder in the past.Aguilar has worked in Poland in addition to his home country of Spain, Georgia, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates…

Turner will assist Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell with issues pertaining to player acquisition and management, roster budget, and compliance. Turner received his J.D. from Tulane University Law School.

Jason Grubb, a former assistant coach for Austin FC II who led the team to the MLS NEXT Pro championship in 2023, has joined the Austin FC First Team coaching staff as Set Piece Coach. In order to include all Club programs into the team paradigm, Grubb’s duties will include cataloging set pieces, teaching, planning, and executing first team set pieces, and coordinating strategy with Austin FC II and Austin FC Academy teams.

Head Coach Josh Wolff, Assistant Coach Davy Arnaud, Assistant Coach Rodrigo Rios, Goalkeeper Coach Preston Burpo, Assistant Coach Terry Boss, and Grubb currently make up the Austin FC First Team coaching staff.

Grubb worked as the goalkeeping coach for the U-20 U.S. Men’s Youth National Team and as the head of academy goalkeeping and goalkeeping coach for Houston Dynamo FC and Houston Dynamo 2 before joining the Austin FC II coaching staff in January 2023.

Cameron Sauro, the team’s goalkeeper coach, has also joined the Austin FC II coaching staff. After working at Inter Miami CF for the last three seasons, most recently as Lead Academy Goalkeeper Coach, Sauro comes to us.
