Oxford United launches first LGBTQ+ supporters group

The first recognized LGBTQ+ supporters organization at Oxford United.

“As a club, we recognize the importance of inclusivity and the critical role we can play in supporting the LGBTQ+ community,” the statement from the club read.

“We want everyone to feel welcome to attend our matches, regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual identification.”

Proud Yellows will not only support constructive changes in football but also offer a communal social atmosphere.

Tim Williams, the CEO of Oxford United, stated: “We want this club to offer an inclusive environment so that everyone feels welcome, and will work closely with Proud Yellows to ensure the experience we deliver matches that ambition.”

In an effort to create a community, Proud Yellows is open to everyone and is not just for LGBTQ+ supporters.

In an effort to “build community, for fans to feel they have a voice in a safe and inclusive space,” U’s fan Sammy founded the group initially last year.

He added that the group is “just as much about community” as it is about campaigning.

He said: “The club and supporters’ panel have been absolutely fantastic with their support and guidance.”
