A man from Swindon is facing a murder charge after a ‘serious assault’ led to the death of another local man.

Wiltshire Police officers were called to an address in Westbourne Court at about 1am on Sunday following a serious assault.

But despite the best efforts of emergency services, a man in his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Grant Walker, 32, of Faringdon Road, Swindon, has now been charged with murder following a ‘swift investigation’ by the Force’s Major Crime Investigation Team and local policing teams.

He has also been charged with assault

He has also been charged with assault on an emergency worker.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (February 27)

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Hatch said: “I’d like to offer my condolences to the victim’s family and thank them for their support during this investigation.

“Our thoughts are with them and they continue to be supported by specially trained officers.”

Police officers were still guarding the crime scene in Rodbourne a full 24-hours after the victim was pronounced dead, with a house in the area cordoned off with police tape.

Nearby neighbours have also expressed their shock at the ongoing investigation, with one saying “Usually it is a nice area but incidents do happen from time to time.”
