Sheffield United financial details confirmed after French international makes transfer move

Former Sheffield United man could come up against Lionel Messi after making transfer switch

Nicksoen Gomis’ transfer to the Major League Soccer (MLS) was approved by Sheffield United last week, but the French defender’s financial interest has been maintained. Toronto FC has signed the 21-year-old following a fruitful trial period.

Gomis, a graduate of the Blades program, was granted authorization to travel to Canada in order to pursue his professional goals during the 2024 preseason. A concussion he sustained during the final preseason game against Los Angeles FC earlier this month delayed Gomis’s debut for his new team, but he could make his debut at New England early in the following month.

General manager Jason Hernandez stated, “We are delighted to add Nicksoen to our club.” Nicksoen showed off his defensive prowess right away and fit right in with our first team. He comes with a solid background, having spent his early years at prestigious European venues. We have no doubt that he will advance on the team during the 2024 season and beyond.

The left-sided defender inked a two-year contract that will last through 2025, with additional options for the 2026 and 2027 campaigns. When Toronto plays David Beckham’s Inter Miami in July and October, he may find himself up against Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez if he makes an impression on manager John Herdman.
