Former Coventry City favourite ‘looking sharp’ as he lands contract after over two years out of the game

Max Biamou, a former star for Coventry City, has signed a deal with Doncaster Rovers after a season-long trial with the League Two team.

The 33-year-old, who helped the Sky Blues go from the fourth division to the Championship in a four-year period between 2017 and 2021, played 115 games and scored 26 goals for the team. However, he hasn’t participated in a competitive game since November 2021, primarily because of injury.

Grant McCann, the manager of Rovers, invited Biamou to training last week. Biamou participated in a friendly at Tranmere behind closed doors, and the Donny manager said he looked “sharp.”

“It is a privilege for me to play for this good club,” Biamou said, speaking to the club’s official website. “It’s a big challenge for me too because I have been out for a long time but I am happy to be back playing and for this club.

“I want to support the club in maintaining their current level of success. In addition to remaining up, I want to contribute significantly to moving up the league.

“My personal objective is to play as much football as I can, score some goals, and feel good about my body and fitness.”

Regarding the Frenchman’s trial matchup with Tranmere last week, McCann stated: “He appeared to be well-prepared.” When I asked him where he physically is on a scale of one to ten after we chatted, he replied that he is approximately a seven. He’s doing well.”

After releasing the player in the summer of 2021, Mark Robins remained in contact with Biamou, who has continued to attend games at the CBS Arena on a regular basis after leaving the team.

The City boss admitted to speaking with Max on occasion to CoventryLive. “He was here not long ago. After undergoing surgery in France, he returned and stated that he needed to play in order to continue his recuperation. I hope Donny is a good fit for him because it’s been a few years and he has to get back on and into a club to play.

“He performed really well for us, but it’s been so long since he was last active that I hope he can return to a level of fitness where he can play again,” he continued. And he may be a great addition to a team if he can return to that level.
