Palace offer Roy Hodgson update as club chiefs hit back at ‘disrespectful’ claims

In preparation for Monday’s match against Everton, the Eagles have provided an update on veteran manager Roy Hodgson, who experienced a health scare during Crystal Palace training last week.

Roy Hodgson is still in the hospital, according to Crystal Palace, but he is “feeling better” following his health crisis.

At the training facility of Crystal Palace last week, the 76-year-old was involved in a concerning incident. After becoming unwell after a training session and being admitted to the hospital, his pre-match news conference for Monday’s match against Everton was canceled.

That day, Palace provided a positive report. “We can confirm that Roy Hodgson is now stable and is currently undergoing tests in hospital,” the club said in a statement in response to reports that he became ill during today’s training session. Roy has the best wishes of the entire club for a quick recovery.

They are now providing a new Hodgson update. A club executive told Mail Online that while he is “feeling better now,” he is still being monitored in the hospital.

Away from an update on his health, club chiefs also hit out at talk over Hodgson’s future. It was previously claimed that the Eagles hierarchy were set to replace him with former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner, rumours that have been slammed as “disrespectful”.

Either way, Hodgson will not be in charge for Monday’s key clash against Everton. He has already been sent a message of support by Toffees boss Sean Dyche.

Speaking ahead of the game at Goodison Park, he said: “I wish him well and sent a message out. I briefly spoke to Ray Lewington, so I believe things are OK at the minute. Great guy.

“Someone I respect greatly. So we are hoping that he recovers. Bigger than the game is certainly his health. I hope he comes through it with no problems.”

Hodgson is currently in the middle of his second spell as Crystal Palace manager. He was in charge between September 2017 and May 2021 and regularly guided the Eagles to Premier League safety.

He returned in March 2023 to replace Patrick Vieira at the helm and once again helped Palace to stave off the threat of relegation. However, there has been a downturn in results this season.

The Eagles sit 16th in the Premier League and just five points clear of the drop zone. They have won just two out of their last 15 games in all competitions.

Hodgson’s current contract at Selhurst Park is set to run until the end of the season. Following Palace’s key clash with Everton, they then face another potentially pivotal Premier League clash against relegation rivals Burnley at the weekend.
