Hibs add another centre-half to Deadline Day list, as Monty seeks Mariners reunion

With a Deadline Day raid, Hibs seek to sign Sunderland defender Nectarios Triantis, bringing the Australian back together with former Central Coast Mariners manager Nick Montgomery. However, the Easter Road club’s pursuit of fellow center-half Owen Bevan, who is still anticipated to join before today’s closing, is unaffected by Triantis’ rise to prominence.

Even at the age of 20, Triantis played a significant role in helping Monty’s Mariners, who had the youngest team in the league, win the A-League title. In Central Coast’s 6-1 victory over opulent Melbourne City in the 2023 A-League Final, the 6′ 3″ goalie got things started.

Earlier in the transfer window, Hibs had taken a look at Triantis, who signed with Sunderland last summer. They proceeded to other targets after learning that the prospect, who was under contract until 2027, was not eligible for even a short-term loan.

But as is customary during the January window, a series of events in the transfer market abroad encouraged the teams to get in touch again this morning. Furthermore, Hibs have high hopes of bringing Triantis on board prior to Scotland’s 11.30 p.m. deadline. The towering defender, who has only made three appearances for Sunderland, is eager to reunite with his former coach Montgomery and is seeking playing time.

Meanwhile, negotiations are still ongoing to sign center defender Bevan fromc. An section of the park that is in desperate need of reinforcement is something Montgomery is keen to add the Wales Under-21 international to. Monty outlined his requirements for the perfect center-half, saying that he needed to be athletic, at ease with the ball, and able to fit into our style of play. It’s my first time trying to get players into the club, so it’s always crucial to look for guys who can play the way you want to.
